MATERIAL STUDIES — FIELD NOTES#

Work in progress.

The study begins with surface. Texture as information carrier. Rust as language.

What the machine discards is still legible: oxidation patterns encode time, stress fractures encode force, surface patina encodes contact. Everything leaves a record. The question is only whether you have instruments to read it.

Materials Under Study#

  • Oxidised iron plate (urban salvage, origin unrecorded)
  • Composite resin with embedded wire mesh
  • Photographic emulsion on industrial substrate
  • Handwritten text under layers of varnish

Method#

No fixed methodology. The material dictates the approach. The approach generates the material. Iteration without predetermined endpoint.
